OK, I can't resist this blog about Jenna Bush and her new book. Read the whole blog entry here :

The quote I particularly enjoy is this:
>
(from her interview with USA Today):
“Jenna Bush, in a rare interview, says her forthcoming book for teens — about a 17-year-old single mother in Panama who is living with HIV — will end with a ‘call to action.”

... the “call to action” line, ohmigod! Do you realize how incredibily annoying it is for people living under your dad’s uncaring, uncompassionate, uninspired polices for six freaking years to hear that you want to issue a “call to action” on social issues? You want a call to action? Start with calling your father and talking to him about single mothers, HIV, and foreign aid and then you get back to us.

The idea that the current administration wants to extend a helping hand to the less fortunate is ludicrous given their 6 year record. From tax-breaks for the top 1% to Katrina, the neo-cons seem to want to end hunger (very low food security) and poverty (would they say 'very low money security) by casting them adrift and hoping they go away and don't come back. The vast resources of the government are now concentrated at the top of the heap, rewarding businesses and rich people in the hope that somehow the benefits of the haves will 'trickle down' to the have-nots. It didn't work under Reagan and it doesn't work now.
Jenna Bush, from her perch near the top of the heap needs to do a lot more than trade on her name and foist platitudes on the public under the guise of wanting to make a difference.
